The top ten largest oil producers in Africa is responsible for producing the largest amount of oil in Africa combined, the list also helps to highlight the challenges facing oil production in Africa generally. Nigeria alone is responsible for producing more than two million barrels a day. Five out of 10 members on the list is a founding member of OPEC.        According to international energy agency, the largest oil producers in Africa are mainly exporters while countries like South Africa and Gabon on the list still import a significant amount of oil.  Although the statistics shows that crude oil production in Africa has significantly declined over the years due to effects of war and conflict i.e libya was among the largest oil producers in Africa until the fall of Gaddafi's regime which saw the country spiral into chaos and also unprecedented drop in oil production thanks to insecurity in the north African state.
