LARGEST OIL PRODUCERS IN AFRICA
The top ten largest oil producers in Africa is responsible for producing the largest amount of oil in Africa combined, the list also helps to highlight the challenges facing oil production in Africa generally. Nigeria alone is responsible for producing more than two million barrels a day. Five out of 10 members on the list is a founding member of OPEC.

According to international energy agency, the largest oil producers in Africa are mainly exporters while countries like South Africa and Gabon on the list still import a significant amount of oil.
Although the statistics shows that crude oil production in Africa has significantly declined over the years due to effects of war and conflict i.e libya was among the largest oil producers in Africa until the fall of Gaddafi's regime which saw the country spiral into chaos and also unprecedented drop in oil production thanks to insecurity in the north African state. Also, the newly formed nation of South Sudan has seen decline in oil production due to conflict and unrest in the country. Nigeria has also seen drop in oil production due to the activities of militants in its oil rich region.

The list is slightly dominated by countries outside sub saharan Africa. The first on the list is Nigeria, the West African country produces more than 2 million barrels per day and is followed by Algeria that recently leapfrogged Angola for second place close to 2 million barrels per day. The bottom of the list which include Gabon, South Africa and democratic Republic of Congo produces less than one million barrels per day.
