The top ten richest female musician in Africa shows how far female artists have come in the rejuvenated music industry in Africa. It also shows the strides female artists have made in Africa over the last decade starting from the likes of weird Mc to the modern day Victoria kimani.
  The fact that majority of the artists on this list comes from one country still shows how hard it is for female artists to succeed in Africa. Many of the problems faced by female artists in Africa can be associated to the effects of gender inequality which has a strong presence in the modern day African society. For example, our investigation shows that female musician are still paid less compared to their male counterparts for shows, tours and even endorsement. A male artist in Africa is also ten times to likely secure a deal with a record label compared to a female artist.

  2. ASA $5 MILLION:The French born Nigerian artist is second on the list with $5 million. She has sold more than 400,000 albums world wide making her the highest for any female musician in Africa. 
  3. YEMI ALADE $2.2 MILLION:The Nigerian diva who is credited with the popular hit track Johnny is third on our list. Her source of income include sold out tours and concerts around the world. 
  4. CHIDIMMA $2 MILLION:The former project fame winner has grown to be a house hold name in Africa. Most of her fortune is made from shows and tours. 
  5. OMAWUMI $1.9 MILLION:The Nigerian pop star is fifth on the list. She collects a staggering 30k per show which makes her very expensive in Africa. 
  6. WEIRD MC $1.8 MILLION:The veteran Nigerian rapper was among early trail blazers in the Nigerian music industry. Majority of her earnings comes from album sales. 
  7. TY  BELLO $1.45 MILLION:The singer whose recent work in photography helped turn a bread seller into a super model is  seventh on our list. Her source of income comes from a divergent of professions which includes photography, singing, songwriting etc
  8. SEYI SHAY $1.2 MILLION:The Nigerian based singer and songwriter made a lot of Fortune from her last album. She was previously managed by Matthew Knowles. 
  9. VICTORIA KIMANI $800,000:The American born Kenyan singer is the only artist on this list outside Nigeria. Her major source of income is from shows and concerts. 
  10. CYNTHIA MORTALITY $500,000: The Nigerian pop queen is the last and also the youngest on our list with $500k.She has grown to be a household name in Africa.
