20 MOST CORRUPT COUNTRIES IN AFRICA
African countries have been heavily featured on the list of most corrupt countries in the world according to transparency international's corruption perceptions index. Every year since 1995,Transparency International and the United nations releases it's corruption perception index which tries to survey and explain corruption and abuse of office by civil servants and government officials. The CPI currently ranks 178 in the world and more than 30 African countries.
According to survey, the countries seen as most corrupt is African countries, Middle East and Asian countries. The survey shows that corruption continues to linger at the core of African countries.
The method for calculating the corruption perception index used 13 surveys which includes business opinion polls or performance assessments from a group of analysts and ranks the countries 100 for least corrupt and 0 for most corrupt.
Stanstats decided to take a look at the African countries which has been ranked as the most corrupt by the corruption perception index. Our analysis of the survey shows that African countries ranked low in good governance and this can be backed up the Ibrahim MO good governance report which tries to rate good governance in Africa every year.
One major factor that fuels corruption according to the survey is war and conflict. Countries at war or conflict tend to be seen as most corrupt.
The most corrupt country in Africa according to CPI is Somalia, the war torn African country has been equally ranked the most corrupt in the world until it was recently overtaken by Syria. The country received a rating of 8 out of 100.
The second on the list is Sudan, the country got a rating of 12 out of 100 and is followed by South Sudan and Angola which both got a rating of 16 respectively. Here is a list of the top 20:
