MOST POLLUTED CITIES IN AFRICA
The most polluted cities in Africa is way to show the adverse effects of industrialization, urbanization and ever increasing population in Africa. Asian countries like China, India are known to have very highest level of pollution in the world, but over the years, the level of pollution in African cities is growing exponentially.

A WHO report in may 2016 showed that more than 80 percent of people living in urban areas are exposed to air pollution. According to the report 98 percent of cities living in low and middle income countries with more than 100,000 inhabitants do not meet WHO air quality guidelines. In the past two years, the guideline now covers more than 3000 cities. One of the most harmful pollutants is the PM10,it is found in soots, smoke and dusts. The report also says that air pollution has become a major concern in the world because it is now a leading cause of disease and death in the world.
Nevertheless, our focus is identifying cities in Africa that have the highest level of pollution and the most surprising thing is that four African cities are among the most polluted in the world most polluted cities.

Here is the list of the cities:
- ONITSHA, NIGERIA : The city which has become the commercial city of Nigeria and West Africa has the indignity of being labeled the most polluted city in Africa. The cause of the pollution can be attributed to rapid urbanization, poor waste management, use of generators and unregulated vehicle emissions.
- KADUNA, NIGERIA: The city which is located in northern Nigeria has an estimated population of 6.3 million inhabitants. The pollution in the city is caused by emissions from motor vehicles and generators.
- ABA, NIGERIA :it is one the largest commercial cities in Nigeria cities. The city has an increasing sight of rubbish everywhere due to poor waste management.
- UMUAHIA, NIGERIA: The city has experienced an unprecedented increase in pollution due to poor waste management, and unregulated vehicle emission.
- KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Ugandan capital has seen a rise in pollution levels due to urbanization, industrialization and unregulated vehicle emissions.
- OWERRI, NIGERIA : A small city in Eastern Nigeria made the list because of rapid industrialization and poor waste management.
- DAKAR, SENEGAL : The Senegalese capital has a very high level of pollution due to unregulated emissions from cars and industries.
- BAMENDA, CAMEROON:A hilly city in North West Cameroon has a very high level of pollution and is attributed to rapid urbanization.
- BEAU BASSIN/ROSE HILL, COROMANDEL, MAURITIUS:Rapid urbanization and unregulated vehicle emissions contributed to the rise of pollution in the city.
- HARTEBEESPOORT:The pollution in the city can be attributed to urbanization.
