AFRICAN COUNTRIES WITH THE HIGHEST LIFE EXPECTANCY

  Life expectancy has become an important tool to measure human development in today's world. Life expectancy can be described as the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. It can also be described as a measure of overall quality of life in country. 
   A WHO report on life expectancy shows that the average life expectancy is 71.0 years, 68 years for men and 73 years for female. The report showed that women  live longer than men generally. The report also showed that developed countries have higher life expectancy than developing and undeveloped countries. 
    However, our main focus for this article is Africa. The report showed that African countries have lower life expectancy compared to the rest of the world. North African countries live longer than sub saharan countries and women also live longer than men in Africa. Some of the factors for lower life expectancy in Africa include diseases like HIV, poor health care facilities, war, famine and political instability. 
The top ten countries include:
  1. ALGERIA:
    The north African country have the highest life expectancy in Africa. The life expectancy in the country is around 76.80 years. Some of the reasons for the high life expectancy in the country include: improved access to clean water supply and also increased access to health care. Poor people in the country receive free medical services. 
  2. LIBYA:
    The country is second on the list with an average life expectancy of 76.50 years. Despite the conflict in Libya, the country have managed to maintain its health infrastructure that was inherited from Gaddafi's regime. 
  3. TUNISIA:
    The country have the highest access to clean water supply in the middle East and Africa. Average life expectancy in the country is around 76.10 years it also has low infant mortality at 25 per 1000.
  4. MAURITIUS:
    The country have the highest level of life expectancy in sub saharan Africa With a life expectancy of 75.60 years. The country also has one of the best health care system in Africa. 
  5. EGYPT:
    Life expectancy in Egypt was around 71.60 years in 2015 according to estimates. Reasons for this include: modernized health care systems, improved health care coverage and good sanitation in the country. 
    Others include: Cape Verde 72.10 years,Ghana 66.60 years, Madagascar 65.90, Togo 65.00 years, Gambia 64.90 years.
