LARGEST NATURAL GAS PRODUCERS IN AFRICA
Natural gas has become one of the most important source of energy in Africa and in the world at large. The fossil fuel has become a major source of energy for cooking and electricity generation in Africa. Natural gas can be found in deep underground formations or associated with other hydrocarbon reservoirs in coal beds.

On the world stage, a natural gas production statistics released by international energy agency showed that natural gas production was at four trillion cubic meters annually.Gas production in the world declined in 2009 only to rebound by 4.4 percent in 2010.
However, in Africa, the top ten largest natural gas producers in Africa produced 199,561,000,000 cubic meters of natural gas combined. The report also showed that gas production has declined generally in Africa, for example gas production in Libya declined from 12 billion cubic meters in 2013 to 7 billion cubic meters in 2014 while gas production in Algeria declined by 6 percent in 2011 but have increased gradually since then. Top natural gas producers in Africa like Nigeria and E.Guinea has seen neither increase or decline in production.
The largest natural gas producer in Africa according to the report is Algeria, the North African country is also among the top ten largest natural gas producers in the world. Gas production in the country was around 82 billion cubic meters according to the latest estimate. Since IEA started releasing report on natural gas production, the country has being the largest producer of natural gas in Africa. It also has the 10th largest natural gas reserve in the world.
The second largest natural gas producer in Africa is Egypt, the country produced more than 6 billion cubic meters of natural gas according to estimate. Production level have being steady in the country since 2005.The country is also the biggest consumer of natural gas in Africa.
Nigeria, Libya, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Tunisia, cote d'ivoire, South Africa and Republic of Congo make up the top ten.
Here is the breakdown of the annual production in cubic meters.
