Since the discovery of oil in Africa last century, the question on everybody's mind is when it is going to finish. The answer to that question is rooted in the complex nature of fossil fuels. With the recent clamour by developed countries in the world to cut down on the use of fossil fuels and move to clean energy because of climate change makes it even more complicated to answer.
However, oil production has dropped in Africa because of slow economic growth in the world, drop in oil prices and OPEC's decision to cut production has a created a greater uncertainty over the future of fossil fuels in Africa and the world at large.
Stanstats decided to profile the African countries with largest proven oil reserves from different sources that include OPEC, CIA, World factbook, oil companies etc. According to our methodology, proven reserves are those quantities of petroleum which by analysis or engineering data are deemed economical.
